Welcome
August 2010
Welcome to our late summer newsletter which is a
mix of news items and articles along with some links you might be
interested in reading.
Like most of you we've been hard at work over the last
few months with the Microsoft NAV team, in
particular, being very busy. The new version of
Microsoft Dynamics NAV, NAV 2009, has kept them on their toes
and with the next release now
unveiled and launching in a few months this will keep them going to
the New Year and beyond.
We've also updated our website which has been moved to a new
content managed site to make it easier to update and add new
content.
We hope you like this edition and we'd be delighted to hear from
you with any comments. Contact us on news@talonsys.co.uk. In the
meantime enjoy the rest of the lovely Scottish summer!

Sort Out Spam!
Do you have an ever increasing problem with spam? Not only
is it clogging up your inbox but then you have to waste time
sorting through it to make sure no important emails are
missed.
More than 80% of email volume is spam and spammers are getting ever
more sophisticated and spam blocking ever more complicated. In such
a scenario, it is not surprising that many companies simply do not
have the necessary resources and expertise to combat this
constant and ever changing problem.
A possible solution is to use an external spam filter. Click here to find out more or call
us to discuss any issues you have with spam.

Microsoft Dynamics NAV 2009 R2
Microsoft Dynamics NAV 2009 R2 has been unveiled. This release
will be available for customers by the end of 2010 which is earlier
than expected.
R2 will have a host of functional
and reporting improvements particularly on the
RoleTailored client. It will also introduce technology that makes
the software easier to install on client pcs so lowering costs
and removing reasons not to upgrade. This release will be the
last version to include both the Classic and the RoleTailored
clients.
The managing vice president at
Directions on Microsoft, B. Robert Helm, said the new release was
'technical turning point' and 'it is likely to be a key version for
customers and partners that want to move forward with NAV long
term.'

Staff Update
IT Support
Derek Souter, Systems Manager, has left Talon for pastures
new and Mark Eskdale is now working with us to undertake the
functions of this role.
Mark has worked in the IT industry for many years and is a very
knowledgeable and competent IT professional with wide ranging
experience in implementing, developing and supporting IT
networks.
We're very much looking forward to working with Mark and believe
the change will improve our customer service - so please join us in
welcoming him to the company.
Web Design
Another new staff member is Martin McGlade who
has joined us as a web designer. Talon has undertaken web
development for a number of years but as more of our clients
were looking for increasingly sophisticated designs we knew that we
needed greater expertise in this area. As our experience
working with Martin on our own website was such a good one we asked
if he would like to work for us on a more permanent basis.
We're delighted he said yes and Talon are now able to expand
our services to clients and offer high quality website design.
