Small businesses are wasting about £31
million a day because staff are not turning off PCs when they leave
at night.
This factoid comes from new
research by energy firm E.ON. 800 businesses were surveyed and 39%
do not regulary shut down their PCs over night while 20% only
choose shut down at the weekends.
Iain Walker, head of business sales at
E.ON, said "Ten per cent of small business owners wrongly assume
that leaving computers on standby at night uses the same amount of
energy as shutting them down completely."
So to save money, and also up your
green credentials, encourage staff to shut down PCs when they leave
as well as turning off printers, scanners and other IT equipment
that is usually left running all day and night.
